La ciudad de Málaga ha sido un destacado destino turístico de sol y playa
durante muchos años, sobre todo a partir de la década de los 60 del siglo
XX. Con la llegada del nuevo siglo y la apertura del Museo Picasso en
2003, la capital se ha convertido en uno de los destinos más importantes
del llamado turismo cultural. Su Alcazaba, el Teatro Romano, la Catedral,
el Palacio Episcopal o el Castillo de Gibralfaro son sólo algunos elementos
más de los que añaden un atractivo especial a esta ciudad como destino
vacacional y turístico.
La Costa del Sol Occidental, con sus 161 kilómetros de litoral malagueño,
ha sido uno de los destinos turísticos mediterráneos donde se inició el
llamado turismo de masas. Un acogedor clima mediterráneo, benigno du-
rante todo el año, con una temperatura media de 18 grados, con más de
300 días al año en los que brilla el sol, le han dado nombre.
Aunque la zona más conocida de la provincia sea la Costa del Sol, lo cierto
es que tiene otros muchos encantos, entre el mar y la montaña. Compues-
ta por nueve comarcas diferentes, sus atractivos van mucho más allá de
su buen clima y de su litoral. Un rico y variado conjunto de municipios que
guardan, de forma individual y colectiva, un atractivo patrimonio históri-
co, cultural y medioambiental dispuesto para satisfacer los intereses de
cualquier viajero.
The city of Malaga has been a major tourist destination for sun-seekers
and beach-lovers for many years, particularly since the 1960s. With the
arrival of the new century, and the inauguration of the Picasso Museum
in 2003, the capital has become one of the most important destinations
for cultural tourism. Its Alcazaba (or citadel), Roman Theatre, Cathedral,
Episcopal Palace and the Gibralfaro Castle are just a few of the elements
that add to the beauty of this city and which make it a splendid holiday
destination for any tourist.
The Western Costa del Sol, stretching some 161 kilometres along the Mal-
aga coastline, was one of the first Mediterranean tourist destinations to
experience mass tourism. The mild Mediterranean climate all year round,
