In de courante orthopedische heelkunde worden de risico's
en de complicaties van de pneumatische tourniquet onder-
schat.
Preoperatieve screening van patiënten die behoren tot de
risicogroepen is dan ook onontbeerlijk (Tabel 2). Indien
niet strikt noodzakelijk om het vlotte verloop van een
orthopedische ingreep te garanderen, kan het gebruik van
de tourniquet best vermeden worden. Het voornaamste
voordeel is een reductie van de operatieduur bij complexe
orthopedische ingrepen.
