New Research Tools from WPI
Muscle Physiology
The SI-CTS200 Cell Tester can be used for single cell or larger skinned muscle fiber preparations. Translational experiments from the single living cells to the intact multi-cellular level can be accomplished. The Cell Tester provides researchers with the comprehensive ability to investigate and characterize the physiological, bio-mechanical and bio-physical properties of single isolated living cells and extend these findings to the sub- and multi-cellular level. New accessories like the Biofluorometer and Optical Sarcomere Spacing system are available for use with the Cell Tester. Page 3 The new SI-H Horizontal Tissue/Organ Bath system (SI-HTB) combines the ease of use and productivity of a traditional vertical organ bath with the more advantageous features of single tissue physiology platforms. The solid horizontal tissue bath design is ideal for combination with electrophysiology on the same platform. Intracellular measurements can share the stable solid base of the bath system. WPI's new fiber-optic based, multi-channel biofluorometer allow for tissue fluorescence measurements (calcium, NO, ROS) on the SI-HTB platform. Page 5 Now, you can design a system to meet your needs and budget. And, it is fully upgradeable in the future. The new SI-BF100 is an LED-based fluorometer for life science applications. It is ideally suited for ratiometric calcium detection (FURA-2) and ATPase detection. It also works well with voltagesensing dyes in neuroscience and any other fluorometric application. Page 6 The SI-H Compact Landgendorff needs no glass columns. It has both Langendorff and working heart perfusion modes. Page 7 The full-size SI-H Langendorff system is designed as a perfusion system for isolated, small mammalian hearts. The system includes the stainless steel sink, a small reeling pump and specially designed two-way Teflon taps. A Neely system is also available. Page 9 WPI offers a new modular design for all your favorite electronic equipment. Install up to eight units in one convenient system. This is perfect for use with the horizontal tissue baths, muscle testers and cell testers. Units available include: SI-BAM21LCB amplifier, SI-AOSUB anti-oscillation unit, SI-TCM2 temperature controller, position controller for the SI-CTS200, SI-SARCAM Laser Sarcomere Spacing system for the SI-MKB, SI-COLUB Contant Load unit, and the SI-MOTDB linear motor controller for the SI-MKB. Live Cell Imaging
This LCI incubator has a unique, diffusion grid with air input and return vents to provide an air flow pattern for consistent, even heating, with no hot or cold spots in the chamber. The external heater can be placed far enough from the system to eliminate electrical and vibrational interference from the heater. It has a high degree of temperature precision and stability, minimal focal drift after equilibrium is achieved. With accuracy of ±0.1ºC at the sample itself, and 0.2ºC across the microscope stage, it allows for uniform heating of multiwell dishes. Page 156 For short term or long term studies of living cell cultures under a microscope or for time lapse video research, a microscope stagetop incubator is necessary. Perfect for Live Cell Imaging, STEV (the stagetop environmental control system) is a compact environmental case that houses your culture wells and fits on a microcope stage. This system offers precision control of both temperature and carbon dioxide. CO2 is measured inside the stagetop incubator, where it is most critical. Page 158
Pumps
The Nanoliter 2010 system is perfect for oocyte injection and applications in the 2.3–69nL range. It offers fast, accurate 2.3nL aliquot injections. It works with glass pipettes. Nanoliter 2010 can be combined with the Micro4 controller. Page 186 The reliable, compact MiniVacuum pump, sold with some SI-H Muscle Testers, is also available separately. Maintenance free • Minimal vibrations • Low noise • Long life (185x72x72mm) Page 185
Microfluidics
The SF-MFP pump delivers smooth, pulse-free flow of volumes from 100nL to 90µL or at rates between 250nL/min. to 10µL/min. Made of PEEK, this tiny pump is compatible with a range of solvents, solutions, buffers and reagents. With this pump, you can throw out your nut and ferrule connections. Now a proprietary connection system uses powerful magnets for leak-proof, self aligning connections that are a snap to assemble. Page 191
Surgical Supplies
The 8L BioClave Mini comes preprogrammed for basic sterilization. Choose either the 120ºC or 134ºC temperature mode, and the cycle time is fixed. This is the perfect autoclave for small spaces. Page 32
