27 Warning! Always remember, it takes just one episode of bad behaviour to make your credibility quickly go ‘down the drain’. Do not let any temptation or desire for greed destroy one of the best assets you have earned and wish to possess for life. Poverty has a rather wide range of meanings. Today’s poverty is different to the poverty of the past, and different people have different perceptions. Poverty is a huge, complex issue. However, the gap between wealth and poverty is unacceptable, and the faster we narrow the gap, the better chance we have of living together peacefully. The worst poverty of all is hunger, thirst and lack of shelter, and no human being should be without these necessities. If there were not so much selfishness, there would be enough wealth in the world to provide every need for people who are less fortunate. Unfortunately, people who have the power and wealth to help the poor, do not understand the meaning of poverty, as they have never experienced the discomfort, pain and suffering of hunger. The powerful and the wealthy should try and go without food, water and shelter for a few days, so that they can experience the feeling of doing without for themselves. They would be pleasantly surprised at how much they would appreciate their wealth, and they would be more willing to share with people who are less fortunate. They would then be able to enjoy and appreciate their wealth and happiness for the rest of their lives. In general, people of the world are generous and compassionate, but are we doing enough to narrow the gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’? Together, let us ask a few questions: Do we go out of our way to help the needy? If we feel hatred towards someone, do we check the reason? Do the world leaders care enough about the under-privileged? Do we give enough to nations whose people are starving for food and water? Do we understand the meaning of equalization? Do the world leaders do enough to stop hunger, misery, wars, crime, anger, thirst? Do the religious leaders co-operate enough, preach peace and accept the belief of other religions? Do wealthy people share enough with people in need?
