9 The performance for the year 2012 was the Sixteenth Production of the Passion Play. There are two performances yearly - one on Palm Sunday and one on Good Friday. Since the beginning, we have averaged four thousand spectators per year, and my wife, Helen, and I are ‘over the moon’ with the yearly success. Gino Gammaldi (the Play Manager) and his wife, Grace, and Fred Martin (the Publicity Manager) and his wife, Mary, have done and are doing an excellent job. For ten years until the year 2009, Gloria O’Loghlin worked extremely hard as Secretary of the Play, and established an excellent communication with the cast and crew. On page 11 is a copy of an article written by Laura Meli, a Cadet Journalist with the Kairos Catholic Journal. She attended the Play on Palm Sunday and given a detailed account of the performance and other information regarding the production of the Play. We are very grateful to Laura, the Editor and other staff who agreed to allow us to include the article in this book. Over the sixteen years since the commencement of producing the Play, we have had excellent Voluntary Directors. Our first was Janet Zappulla who, for three years, established a solid foundation. For the next three years, we had Professional Directors but, unfortunately, the costs got out of control. We decided to go back to Volunteers for Cast and Crew positions. We were fortunate to have David Small direct the play for four years, and he did a fantastic job. John Lee, who is well-known for producing many Christian plays, directed the Passion Play for two years. As a result of his involvement, a number of his actors joined the Passion Play. As Producer I must always be watchful to make sure that everyone is performing well. Each year in my mind God says “trust me”. The next year of the Passion Play, an experienced Director took on the role but within a few weeks of the performance the Committee had to let him go due to some controversial changes he made to the script.
