32nd Annual Scientific Meeting of
the Belgian Society of Cardiology

Lieu: Square - Brussels Meeting Center

Now in its third year at the SQUARE, this annual meeting of
the BSC once again offers the Belgian cardiology community
the opportunity to gather together in central Brussels for
two days of intensive education and networking. Experts in
various fields will contribute to a rich and varied programme,
allowing you to both update your existing knowledge and to
learn about the latest scientific research with implications for
clinical practice. The different types of sessions include:
· "Thematic Sessions" on important areas of interest, such

as prevention, non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, stable
angina and anticoagulation during pregnancy;

· two very stimulating "Teaching Sessions": one on the use

and interpretation of statistics in trials and a second on
the management of syncope;

· the ESC-BSC joint session will explain the relevance of

the 2012 ESC guidelines on Valvular Heart Disease to our
clinical practice;

· the traditional 6 industry-supported satellite symposia

with high-level international speakers;

· oral abstract sessions and the Young Investigators Award

have been maintained as a valuable part of the overall
scientific programme.

33rd International Symposium on Intensive
Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM)

The International Symposium on Intensive Care and
Emergency Medicine is organized by the departments of
Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine of Erasme University
Hospital, Université Libre de Bruxelles, in association with the
Belgian Society of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine
(SIZ). The meeting is held every year in March. Started in
1980, this meeting has become established as one of the
largest in its field, now attracting more than 6000 participants
from countries world-wide.
Invited speakers are well-known experts in their field, and
more than 200 take part each year. Different session formats
including `state of the art' lectures, mini-symposia, workshops,
round table discussions, `meet the expert' sessions, pro/con
debates, tutorials, and demonstrations are included in the
program.

Nos lecteurs réagissent

Je suis ophtalmologue, travaille à Ste Anne (actuellement
Chirec), et ai été choqué par l'exemple donné dans Le
Journal du Spécialiste du 24 octobre (N°12-8, page 5)
concernant les suppléments d'honoraires demandés par
les ophtalmologues dans le réseau Chirec pour la chirurgie
de la cataracte. Dans l'estimation réalisée par Santhéa, il
est dit qu'un ophtalmologue opère 8 cataractes en 4h (ce
qui est vrai) et demande 400% de supplément d'honoraires
pour chaque intervention. L'estimation du Chirec ne
contredit pas ces chiffres. Ceux-ci sont complètement
erronés! A Ste-Anne (Anderlecht), nous opérons un grand
nombre de patients VIPO (au moins 1 patient sur 2):
suppléments = 0%! Par ailleurs, en 10 ans de carrières, je
n'ai JAMAIS demandé 400% de suppléments d'honoraires.
Je demande régulièrement 100% aux patients qui ont
une assurance hospitalisation. Concernant les patients
n'ayant pas d'assurance complémentaire et non VIPO, les
suppléments varient entre 0 et 100% selon des critères
qui dépendent de la santé financière du patient, de ses
exigences et de la difficulté opératoire.
Voir affirmer qu'un ophtalmologue demande 400% de
suppléments d'honoraires par opération de cataracte dans
le réseau Chirec et ne pas lire de démenti dans l'estimation
du Chirec me choque par rapport à la réalité concrète des
suppléments réclamés à Ste-Anne. Nos suppléments sont
proportionnés et respectueux du patient et de son statut.
Le patient reçoit une information claire et honnête de la
facture qu'il devra payer.
Pour le reste, je suis d'accord avec l'argumentation du
Chirec.
