Coach Jeff Raab Named Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year
Jeff Raab was named girls cross country Coach of the Year by the
Tampa Bay Times. The Chargers
were dominant this year with wins at the city, conference and district meets. At the Class A state meet,
the Chargers finished third overall, the highest county finish of any boys or girls team.
Junior Alex Eaton Named Runner of the Year
The Tampa Bay Times named Alex Eaton Female Runner of the Year.
The Times cited Eaton as "having won every big meet against county
foes." Alex won the District title and was the Region Runner-up and third
at Class A State Meet, finishing with a Pinellas County record time.
All Star Football Players:
Garrett Schulte and Jake Kohler
Seniors Garrett Schulte and Jake Kohler were
selected to play in the Pinellas County All Star
football game on Thursday, Dec 12. They played
a great game for the South team, which defeated
the North 23-20.
Senior Alex Horden represented Shorecrest at the FHSAA
student advisory council. Only a handful of high school students
from across the state of Florida represent the FHSAA.
Junior Alex Grant Swims on National Swim Team
Alex Grant is swimming on the
Maccabi USA National Swim Team that
includes a collection of swimmers from
club level to Olympic, such as Garrett
Weber-Gale, a member of the epic
4x100 freestyle relay that helped
Michael Phelps win his 8th gold medal
in the 2008 Olympics. Alex previously
swam as a member of the Maccabi
USA Junior National Team that swam in
Vienna, Austria and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Alex will swim in the 19th Maccabi
World Games in Israel, participating as the youngest swimmer in the Open Age Group. This
event happens every four years, and the competition is the third largest sporting event in the world.
He will be traveling to Israel July 10 - August 2, and his swim competition begins July 18.
Fifth Place Finish at Nationals for
Brendan Shanahan
Senior Brendan Shanahan competed in the
Singlehanded Sailing Championships against top high
school sailors across the country. Eighteen races were
sailed over the two-day event in Long Beach, CA, and
Brendan finished in 5th place. The sailing team is
currently leading their district and are assured a spot
at the District Championship regatta in May.
