s I look back on my last four years of
high school, it amazes me how far I
have come since my first day of school
my freshman year. Never did I think that
transitioning from the public school's fun-
damental program to a private school
would be so easy for me. I had always
thought that my path in life would lead
me to staying in the public school system
with the friends I have had since kinder-
garten. Then this door opened for me. It
was a door that led me to being able to
continue getting the top-notch education
I had learned to expect my whole life. To
be honest, the thought of coming to
Shorecrest and starting over in a com-
pletely different school in which I knew no
one was scary for me. I honestly didn't
know if I would fit in well at this school.
But these worries and fears were put
aside the day I shadowed the Van Gelder
triplets. After just one day, I knew that
Shorecrest was the perfect place for me. I
was instantly drawn in by the Shorecrest
community, all of the opportunities the
school had to offer, and how much a good
education was valued.
The sense of community at this school is
like no other. From our sports teams to
our theater department, to our school
clubs, there is never a dull moment. You
are never taking on a task by yourself, for
there is always someone there to lend a
helping hand. I love how everyone
cheers each other on in whatever activity
they are in. It brings out more of that
sense of family. No one is classified as
just a number. We each bring our own
unique personality to create the big pic-
ture. Our school's theater department is
a great example of the community here
at Shorecrest. Troupe 3140 is made up of
talented thespians that are eager to put
on a great show. They have been more
of a second family to me. We have had
so many experiences together, from
improv to late night rehearsals to thespi-
an competitions at the District and State
levels. Each memory has been magical.
There are so many opportunities here at
Shorecrest with programs such as Mini-
Mester and Career Day, and learning
going on outside of the classroom as well.
The faculty wants to make sure that we are
ready for any opportunity that is presented
to us. They are willing to help make sure
that we get everything that will help us
grow up into well-rounded young adults.
Never did I think I would host a French stu-
dent or even go to France, but because of
Shorecrest giving me the opportunity, I
was able to take it and form relationships
with students from another country. In
order to have these experiences, you have
to take them when they are offered. If you
don't, not only are you missing out on
some great adventures, but you are also
limiting your worldview.
I am so thankful to my teachers here. The
relationships I have formed with all of
them go beyond just what is going on
inside the classroom. Each one of them
has always been interested in getting to
know me as person. They are interested in
my life goals, how my family is doing, and
what my interests are. I am excited to
come to school and learn because I know
that my teachers actually care about what
is going on with me. They want to see me
achieve all my dreams and are willing to
do whatever it takes to help me reach
them. That is a top-notch education.
As I go off to college to major in theater,
I know that every day will present itself
with a new set of challenges that are just
waiting for me to conquer. Because of all
that I have learned and experienced here
at Shorecrest, I know that I will be able to
take on these challenges and succeed. I
won't be afraid to go out there and try
new things. Shorecrest has helped me
grow into the strong young woman that I
have always wanted to be. I always will
consider Shorecrest to be a part of my
family, and because of that, I will always
love Shorecrest.
