T
hroughout my Shorecrest career, I have
learned that you have to step up to the
plate and take the opportunities Shorecrest
presents you with. Whether it pertains to
academics, social activities or sports, there
are opportunities everywhere waiting to
positively impact students.
Shorecrest's small community allows for
innumerable opportunities for leadership
positions across the board. When I was in
both lower and middle school, I looked up
to the academic and social leaders of the
high school. Like them, I wanted to be
more than the average student who simply went along with what was being
said. I wanted to be a part of the decision-making process. Immediately, I
jumped into student council. Then sports teams. Then service clubs. By the
time I reached high school, I was taking any opportunity that interested me
with an open mind. I found the opportunities endless. When I found I was
passionate about a certain aspect of the high school, I worked my way up
until I held a meaningful leadership position.
After three years of passion and consistent involvement in clubs in high
school, I became the president of the Interact service club, Vegetarian Club,
and became the co-founder of an internship program. I have played on,
learned to love, and have held pivotal positions in some of the numerous
sports Shorecrest offers including softball, volleyball, basketball, and flag
football. I've been a part of eye-opening service work in Guatemala and New
Orleans and have, with the availability of one-on-one communication with the
faculty and a strong learning atmosphere, striven to academic excellence.
As a result of having opened the door to leadership positions across the
board, I have gained so many qualities that I will carry with me throughout
my life; some include public speaking, time management, and organization.
I have learned that teachers and classmates are with you all along the way
willing to help as you move forward. Now, as I look back, I know that I have
lived my Shorecrest career to its fullest. I am so thankful for the opportuni-
ties that Shorecrest has presented me with. The impact they have made on
my life is indescribable.

I
remember the day when I was in Mrs.
Tucker's fourth grade classroom, staring
out of the window onto the Lower Division
campus. Miles away (it seemed), past the
old buildings and past the new library, I saw
Crisp Gym looming over the distant Upper
Division. I remember thinking to myself that
one day I would end up all the way over
there. I quickly returned to the class discus-
sion on "Tuck Everlasting."
Eight years later, my Shorecrest experience
draws to a close, and a new phase in my
life begins. Throughout the years, I have
made lifelong friends, met outstanding
teachers, and learned valuable lessons.
Shorecrest's teachers have been one of my
biggest influences at school. From learning
the alphabet with Mrs. Minke to learning
how to type with Mrs. Baralt to learning De
Moivre's Theorem with Mr. Field, my suc-
cesses and accomplishments at Shorecrest
