Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways in which many cell types of the innate and
adaptive immune system play an important role. In allergic asthma, Th2 cells of the adaptive
immune response control goblet cell metaplasia, bronchial hyperreactivity, eosinophilic airway
inflammation and allergen-specific IgE synthesis. In this meeting, bringing together basic
scientists and clinicians, we will focus on the role of newly implicated cell types (like innate
lymphoid cells, basophils, airway epithelial cells and dendritic cells) and environmental triggers
(like allergens, microbiota, ER stress triggers, environmental pollutants, respiratory virus) and
we will review recent advances in mast cell biology and the role of IgE synthesis. After this
of meeting, attendants will be up to date with recent advances at the forefront of asthma
research and will have a clear framework for understanding recent developments in asthma
phenotyping and therapeutics.
