Signature Fragrance
heart and soul
G
eir Ness is not your typical blond-
haired, blue-eyed Norwegian
model. While any other man
with the body of a god would be satisfied
with being known as the best underwear,
swimwear and fashion model on the
circuit, Ness had bigger goals.
In between modeling and acting gigs,
Ness, who worked in a fragrance
department for big department store in
Hollywood
during the summer to make
ends meet, set his sights on creating his
own signature fragrance. But that's easier
said than done and it would take years
to come to fruition. First, Ness partnered
with a chemist to determine the kind of
fragrance he wanted to create.
"When I was growing up my mother
always would take me to the mountains
of Norway," says Ness. It was one of his
favorite childhood memories.

So it was to the mountains that he returned to pick the herbs
used to blend his signature fragrance. And that was just the first
step. Secondly, Ness conducted man-on-the-street sniff tests for
feedback from future customers. Although Ness won't reveal the
exact mixture used to create his perfume, he says real watermelon
is a part of his potion, "because it brings out the natural blend
of fruit and flowers." Coming up with the best blend took more
than five years.
When it came to choosing a name for his fragrance duo, it
was a no-brainer. The female fragrance is named after his
mother, Laila. It's her signature that's copied on the front of the
perfume bottle.
