ust 63 kilometres long, 45 kilometres wide and with an area of 2,512 square
kilometres, Réunion Island is a mere glimmer in the eye that is the Indian Ocean.
What it lacks in size though, this rugged, volcanic island more than makes up for in
spectacular vistas and abundant action-packed activities for the intrepid tourist.
Réunion is without doubt one of France's best-kept secrets, though its own
people know this French territory, or department, and outermost region of the
European Union very well indeed. So while tourists flock to nearby Mauritius
(200 kilometres northeast) and Madagascar (863 kilometres west), they are often
unaware that they may just be missing out on the holiday of a lifetime on this exotic
little island.
