dining
s South Africa is increasingly
moving from a cameo to a
leading role on the global
tourism stage, so its hospitality
sector is starting to boom,
and it is concepts such as
that launched by the
Urban Dining Group that
are leading the charge.
Combining the trendy `urban' style
of localised and city dwelling dining with
traditional fare and South African culture,
the Urban Dining Group is the umbrella
company for a series of exclusive and
unique dining experiences throughout
Johannesburg, Cape Town and in Durban.
When thinking of urban-dining, jam-
packed restaurants come to mind, filled
with the smell of freshly cooked cuisine,
the noise of clinking glasses and a hum
of chitter chatter fills the air. While some
of the restaurants in the group cater to a
different audience, they all operate under
the same principles good food using
quality ingredients, fine wine and delectable
cocktails, ambience laden atmospheres,
weekly events and functions and overall
urban experience muddled with a city vibe.
The ethos of Urban Dining is simple
provide excellent experiences, offer the best
products for the best value, finish that off
with superior service and attention to detail
and voila!
Today the group's operations are a
healthy mix of restaurants including cocktail
bars by way of Billy the Bums, Argentinian
grill and bar Bar Ba Coa and South African
steak house Butcher Boys. However, the
group is continuing to grow its urban-dining
portfolio with the on-going addition of other
local and trendy restaurant brands and hot
spots.

BIlly The BuMs
Billy the Bums was established in 1996 with its first operation opening in Durban as
the area's finest cocktail bar. The restaurant, now found in both Durban and Fourways,
boasts over 40 exotic cocktails and a varied selection of beers on tap. With a diverse
menu packed with local and international dishes, guests can choose from a wide range
of mouth-watering meals. Also offering over 15 different burgers, Billy the Bums definitely
puts what it terms "the zing back into this humble favourite".
The restaurant is also known as a social hot spot, with planned weekly events and
functions bringing in the fun crowd as they dance and drink the night away. With a
ladies night on Wednesday, Beer O'clock every week day, Burger and Beer Mondays,
amongst other daily promotions, there's social happenings available for both men and
women. Billy the bums boasts a casual yet stylish interior which conforms to urban-dining
expectations. With a strong bar scene, guests can either sip cocktails at the bar, lounge
on the many contemporary couches scattered around the area or eat at the table section.
