013 is nearly done, Christmas
beckons and that special time
of the year has come, when
for a brief period we focus on
giving to others. We think of
presents for our loved ones,
close family and special friends. We think of
all the special people in our lives who are no
longer with us to share Christmas with us.
It is a time to go on holiday, relax and have
fun. (Hopefully we will see some of you at a
Legacy Lifestyle resort.) A time of bonding, a
time to also celebrate the birth of that Special
Person who has played such an important
role in shaping the value system on which our
societies are built.
Sadly for us in Africa and in South Africa
in particular, we are living in a time where
crime is pandemic and is now out of control.
Those who have been charged with, and are
paid to protect the citizens of our countries
do not seem, due to a wide range of reasons
including corruption and poor training, to be
able to ensure that our families can move
around in safety. Our wives and daughters are
exposed to man's most destructive evil and
undesirable weapon Rape!
The statistics in South Africa are
frightening and show that one in three
women will be raped in their lifetimes.
The system is falling apart. Our
leaders, through their own action, lack
credibility and in many instances are
involved in crime themselves. There
seems to be no one we can turn to
for help. The truth is we voted the
government into power in the hope
that they would make a difference and
we must now join together and start to
become responsible for our own and
our fellow citizens' future, literally
by BLOWING THE WHISTLE on all
forms of crime. This is now the time
to take the future into our own hands.
For too long now, we have passively
witnessed crime being committed and have
done nothing about it.
It is time for us to BLOW THE WHISTLE
on crime, either as a call to our fellow citizens
for help or to BLOW THE WHISTLE when we
see a crime happening.
The criminals of South Africa must be
made aware that someone is watching them,
someone who is prepared to BLOW THE
WHISTLE on them. Our police must realise
that citizens of South Africa are counting on
them to step up and cure this pandemic that
right can win over wrong. Rapists beware!
The whistle blowers are watching you. Victims
have a voice and your fellow South Africans
have decided that enough is enough.
the plan
Join the #Whistle Family and pledge your
support as many of South Africa's celebrities
are doing, and BLOW THE WHISTLE on
crime.
how can you get Involved?
Visit www.whistle.co.za and download the
BLOW THE WHISTLE App. Mike Rowley and
the Legacy Lifestyle team have designed an
app which enables blowers users to nominate
guardians to notifiy when in trouble and locate
a person in trouble using GPS technology
linked to your cellphones.
Or, buy a whistle at one of the listed
suppliers. It only costs R30 and is designed
to be carried on your person as a
functional fashion accessory, so you can
BLOW THE WHISTLE when you see a
problem or need help. The proceeds of these
are going into a fund to support worthy causes
such as DNA rape kits. Thirdly make a pledge
or donate to the cause.
Lastly, we are encouraging whistle
blowers to form groups, talk to each other and
share ideas as to how we can together start
to rebuild the value system of our country and
advocate that "Crime does not Pay".
To Sureshnie Rider and Mike Rowley,
founders of the programme, I salute you.
And to all fellow readers of Legacy
Inspires, I hope you will join us as whistle
blowers and Lifestyle members, committed
to sharing the power of our collective
commitment to each other and to South
Africa and Africa.
With the elections just around
the corner, it is time for us to let
our leaders know that they are
disappointing us. Our chosen leaders
are there for us, not for themselves.
Happy Christmas! Let's join
together and make a difference in 2014!
Kind regards
Bart Dorrestein
