he year that was 2013
is almost behind us.
And what a year it has
been! Not only did it gallop
passed us, but it was also jam
packed with events and changes
for just about everyone I have
spoken to. I think it is fair to say
that at the end of each year we
remark about how the year has flown and
we compare notes on just how busy it was.
However I think 2013 has been just that little
more chaotic. Well it certainly has for my
immediate inner circle and myself.
I think every year in our lives bears
witness to a series of events that define it.
In 2010 we had the World Cup (can you
believe it is almost four years ago?) and
next year we will have another voting year
here in South Africa. In the US 2013 will be
marked as the year the government refused
to go to work, the Eurozone worked hard
to claw its way out of its economic woes, a
new royal was born, the birth of the Nkandla
scandal and the list goes on.
But more importantly what do you define
2013 as the year of? And has it shaped you
enough that you will make quantifiable and
meaningful changes in 2014?
While you ponder this we do hope
you will take some time out to enjoy
our 13th issue of our magazine Legacy
Inspires. While we don't reflect only on
the year that was we do speak to some
special South Africans, follow the
journey of the America's Cup
(controversy and all), visit
The Commodore in
Cape Town, take a
journey to an island
resort and indulge at a number of dining
partners all the while penning down some of
their most treasured recipes.
Looking ahead to 2014 it seems that
the Legacy team has a number of exciting
announcements under their belt from both
the teams at the Hotels as well as the
Lifestyle team. So while you kick back and
enjoy your holiday and think about the
year that was we urge you to turn your
attentions for a short while on looking ahead
at the year that will be.
Enjoy your festive season wherever it
may take you. Be safe and be careful. Till we
