Cookie's Confidence
C
ookie Johnson is as sweet as her name. But
finding a fabulous fitting pair of jeans wasn't
such a sweet feat for Johnson. When she
couldn't find a pair of denims made for her curvy figure,
she decided to make them. Although she works out and
follows a healthy diet, Johnson "isn't a size 2," she says.
Armed with her fashion experiences as a sales rep and
buyer in New York and Los Angeles, Johnson partnered
with designer Michael Glasser in 2009 to create Cj by
Cookie Johnson
jeans. The Cj line debuted at Nordstrom
department stores, where they flew off the shelves.
From there, a star--er, a brand--was born.
"At Cj by Cookie Johnson, we give women with curves,
who may have been taught to hide them, a reason to
celebrate their shape. We even say our jeans are woven
with a little self-esteem," declares Johnson, a Michigan
State University graduate with a degree in Clothing and
Textile Retail. "Having inner strength is something that
others notice when you walk into a room."
In fact, Johnson's well-known hubby, NBA star Earvin
`Magic' Johnson, has stated that when he first met his
wife, she "dazzled in denim." They married in 1991 and
have two sons and one daughter.
