Here are some alternative
exercises in case you can't
make it to the gym.
1. Replace your computer chair with a physio
ball. This will keep your core engaged at all
times, improving your abdominal area and
your posture.
2. Take your canine for a walk. Where can
you find a better workout partner?
3. Avoid escalators and elevators. Use stairs
whenever possible.
4. When watching TV, take advantage of the
commercial break to choose an exercise
and keep it going until your show resumes,
i.e., do pushups, jump rope or jog in place.
A healthy alternative to snacking!
5. After dinner, recruit the family to take a nice
bike ride. This will keep your metabolism
moving and burn those excess dinner
calories.
6. Laughter Yoga classes are popping
up everywhere. Started in 1995, the
movement now includes more than 2,500
clubs. It teaches how simulated laughter
techniques can strengthen your core and
improve your breathing patterns and lower
stress levels. Check out

"ruNNer'S high"
It's not just for runners anymore.
A good exercise session can
release endorphins. These are
hormones responsible for that
euphoric feeling you get after a
good workout or activity. They
are also busy blocking those
nasty stress-related hormones.

Endorphins also play a role in
how we look. They block the
buildup of the hormone cortisol,
which is responsible for fat
storage, especially in the mid-
section area.
"get well SooN"
With your newfound exhilarated
emotions, your body rewards
you by producing T-cells to
bolster your immune system.
According to the American
Physiological Society, happier
people tend to be healthier and
to live longer.
the happY hormoNe
While endorphins may be the
"Vice President of Hormones"
responsible for energy and
mood levels, serotonin is
definitely the "President."
Termed the "happy hormone,"
serotonin affects how we sleep,
our emotions, memory and even
our muscular and cardiovascular
condition. Low serotonin levels
are also linked to obesity. So
where do we find these perky
fellows? Just eat some popcorn,
nuts, fish, maybe some hummus,
and even a glass of milk.

Counting sheep not working?
Try counting reps. According to
the American Academy of Sleep
Medicine, exercise improves
sleep patterns, which lowers
stress levels and improves your
focus and clarity.
Just remember the following little
proverb and instead of running
to the pharmacist, you'll just
be running.
