Ahjalia Hall
heart & soul
dancer herself who was also a choreographer and dance
studio owner, introduced her to dancing. Hall is cousin to
Alex Haley, author of the award winning books Roots and
The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
When Hall was accepted at UCLA, she moved to Los Angeles
to pursue dance, choreography, and dance instruction.
While at UCLA, she became a member of the nationally
ranked UCLA All-Star dance team directed by Andrew Vaca.
Hall currently choreographs for nationally ranked dance
teams throughout the United States. You have likely
seen her choreography at competitions winning awards
such as Most Entertaining, Best Costuming, and Best
Choreography. Hall travels throughout the year teaching
jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and lyrical master classes to
thousands of students across the United States and Japan.
In addition to her teaching, she has judged regional and
national competitions for the past 12 years. "In April 2011, I
had the highest honor of judging the USASF Dance Worlds
in Orlando, Florida," she says. And she will be judging
Worlds again at Disney's Epcot Center in April of 2013.
What does the future look like for Hall? She acknowledges
that performing is a hobby. However, her true passion is
in teaching young and developing dancers and creating
choreography. In addition, history, family, and dedication
to the arts are her top priorities. Perhaps she takes after
her cousin Alex Haley, or maybe her mother!
