LIFESTYLE
architecture. With its own architectural and
environmental identity homeowners have
prescribed building guidelines, ensuring that
each addition to this pristine jewel stays true
to the overall look and feel of the property.
Legacy Inspires speaks to Ryk Neethling,
Marketing Director and resident about what
it means to live and work at Val de Vie and
what he believes sets this award winning
development apart from others in its class.
We ask Ryk what he believes makes Val
de Vie a special destination: "I think definitely
its location, being in the winelands, within 35
minutes of the airport and close to the V&A
Waterfront as well as all of the activities and
amenities Cape Town has to offer provides us
with the edge over others.
"But its not just about the location its
also the people here that make Val de Vie
unique, the people here have a great soul
and they bring this vibe to the property itself.
Remember we are primarily a residency estate
and many of the people who live here also
work here, so it has a vibe all year round."
But while a residency estate the property
is far more than just that, with its polo and
equestrian facilitates, clubhouse, vineyards,
cellar and wine tasting amenities as well as
its gymnasiums, pool and wellness centre it
combines all of the lifestyle aspects one would
need without ever having to venture beyond its
borders, except to ferret for supplies of course.
"I would say that some of the highlights
of the property are definitely the combination
of polo and wine, which is a first in Africa.
Residents can take advantage of the
equestrian aspect as well as the fact that we
are a successful wine estate. I would also
say that the diversity of the property stands
out. We are based on an expansive property
that boasts more than 12 hectares of lakes
and 2km of Berg River passing through all
of which when combined provide a unique
outdoor experience as well.
"We also have a gym, swimming and
tennis academy and a preschool, you can also
watch people play polo four times a week,
and again I can't emphasise enough the
actual vibe of the estate. It is always busy and
the people are always busy unlike the ghost
towns that many estates are during the day.
Here you will see people walking, see people
on horseback, picnicking in the picnic areas,
mountain biking through the trails and so on.
Personally to me this is paradise, I travel a lot
and I just love coming home," adds Ryk.
The polo club is also growing and
according to Ryk its numbers have shot up
from a mere five members in 2008 to an
excess of 50 members today. The estate
attracts a number of international polo
patrons, many of which have personally
bought property on the estate. The equestrian
facilities currently include 64 stables, which
are already full and there are currently plans
underfoot to develop and build a further 42.
But in a market where real estate is a
swear word as the global economy swings like
a pendulum out of control, how is the property
aspect of Val de Vie really doing? According to
Ryk phenomenally.
We have already sold 497 of the 550
available plots with between 60 and 70 homes
scheduled to be built every year for the next
three years. I think the main clincher for many
people is that we are a primary residency
estate, and we promote a lifestyle that people
want to be a part of," states Ryk. "This can
be evidenced in that fact that many of our
residents are business people who have their
families housed here and then commute to
and from as far as Johannesburg each week
for work, returning to Val de Vie each weekend
to be with their families."
But beyond its claim as a residential estate
it is a working wine farm and a successful one
