SUCCESS
But with swimming being the centre of
her life and never far from her heart, even
her official wedding date had to change as
the previously selected dates of the 8th and
9th of July clashed with an International
Olympic Committee meeting. The wedding
being moved forward, awarded the couple
of opportunity to come to their first meeting
as a wedded couple and the opportunity for
Charlene to return to her home country for the
first time as a princess.
Whether it was known to her or not, she
was welcomed upon South African soil as a
queen as she had managed to capture the
hearts and imaginations of thousands of South
Africans who at this stage, having watched
her wedding on television and followed her
career with interest, thought of her as their
own princess.
The wedding itself was spectacular and
televised across the globe for millions to
see as Charlene and Albert committed their
nuptials in a civil ceremony at the Throne
Room in the Prince's Palace. For many it was
the first glimpse of the life their South African
darling would be living. The official `Nuptial
Mass', which was held on the 2nd of July, was
an incredibly extravagant affair.
After the pomp and ceremony had settled
on the event the couple slipped off to South
Africa for their honeymoon.
