Not to mention the fashion stage where promising
designers were wowing the audience with their latest
clothing lines. Museums, galleries Opener has it all.
And, of course, the silent disco in the bunker, occupied at
all times with a queue for the headphones snaking across
the square. The new addition to the attraction set was a
bus in the shape of an aeroplane covered in white with
markers available to the public to leave their message in
a form of graffiti. Some, were inspirational, others not
worthy quoting.
Not many foreigners had heard of Polish bands such as
Domowe Melodie or Lki Lan before however, having
made friends with the locals some decided to go ahead
and check out what they had to offer. Surely, they were
not disappointed as Polish music scene is at its best now,
rejuvenated and fresh, full of positive sounds bashing out
of the speakers to everyone's delight.
And then, there was Rihanna's time to play. Although she
got to the festival a few days before; partying with the acts
backstage, her concert was somehow a separate event. The
atmosphere shifted, as did the crowd with thousands of
people coming to Gdyniafor one day only, curious and
anxious to see the pop star perform. Various fire effects,
dancing crew and her own persona, Rihanna proved to
everyone why she was a phenomina in her career; the
public was not at all disappointed.
All in all, Heineken Opener is still a relatively young
festival with its popularity rising year by year. The number
of non-musical attractions and also the close proximity
to the nearest beach, attracts music fans from all over
the continent. It is a great way to promote the region and
the whole country which as most of the people I had met
agreed, has a lot to offer.
Hope to see you all in Gdynia next July!
