Of all the London Jazz Clubs, was there one particular
club that made you feel most at home?
The Pigalle Club in Picadilly is probably one of my favorite
venues to perform in. It has a timeless glamour to it that
really appeals to me and the audiences are always really up
for a good time, plus, they do great cocktails so what's not
to love?!
You mention in your biog on your website that you
were noticed by soul and jazz aficionados Truth and
Soul (the team behind Aloe Blacc's mainstream success)
because of your preference of writing music to live
instrumentation as opposed to programmed. How
important is it for you to hear live instruments when
you sing?
It's hugely important. Nothing beats real instrumentation!
Like the human voice, live instruments have a real person
bringing them to life, so there's a unique personality there
that programming just cannot emulate. For me, it's akin
to the difference between wood and plastic. Would you
rather sit at a wooden table or a plastic one? That's how
it is for me on stage or in the studio. I need to hear real
instruments.
What inspires your music?
The complexity of the mind, heart and soul and how they
all intertwine and react to love.
