Movie Matters
Jack the Giant Slayer
Long-lasting peace between humans and giants is put under threat when
a young Jack (Nicholas Hoult) leads an expedition to the giant-kingdom
in the hope of rescuing a kidnapped princess. Directed by Bryan Singer
(X- Men: First Class) and boasting an incredible cast; Jack the Giant
Slayer is a brilliant addition to the re-vamped fairy-tale genre.
Oblivion
A sci-fi thriller featuring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, Oblivion
tells the story of Jack, a veteran assigned to return to earth which has
been devastated after an alien attack, to extract its remaining resources.
However, certain events lead Jack to question his true purpose, and he
realises the fate of mankind lies in delicate balance. An elegant, well-
directed sci-fi flick that definitely deserves a viewing.
Welcome to the Punch
This British crime drama follows ex-convict Jake who is forced to
return to London after his son gets involved in a heist that goes wrong.
Upon his return, detective Max Lewinsky takes the opportunity to
do everything possible to catch the prolific criminal. Starring James
McAvoy and Mark Strong, Welcome to the Punch is a stylish, fast-paced
Brit flick.
Identity Thief
After realising his identity has been stolen, mild-mannered Sandy
travels to Miami to confront the woman responsible. Though she seems
harmless at first, Sandy's pursuit of her takes him on a rollercoaster
adventure in this buddy comedy. Starring Jason Bateman and the
hilarious Melissa McCarthy, Identity Thief will give you some genuine
laughs.
The Host
Written by Twilight's Stephanie Meyer, The Host takes us into a
future world where an unseen enemy captures humans and erases their
memories. Lacking action, and portraying the cheesy message that love
conquers all. The Host is not the best movie out there, but fans of the
Twilight saga may as well give it a watch.
