Recently, (thanks to social network sites) I have read a number of articles and shared views that RnB;
as we know it, is a dying genre. With many of our favourites either going Hip-hop (Chris Brown) or
moving to the dance genre (Ne-Yo and Usher) it's hard not to agree with this view.
However, low and behold; there are some musicians who are sticking to what they know and this
month's Superman feature Bobby V is one of them. Back on the scene with his 4th studio album, I
wanted to find out more about his latest musical offering, to learn how much of his music is based on
true life experiences and to gain a deeper insight into what drives and inspires him. Excited, much!

obby, I'm pretty excited to be interviewing
you. I'm sure I can speak for most of the RnB
lovers in the UK that the first time they lay eyes
on you was in the 'Slow Down' video. Firstly,
let's talk about `Back To Love'. Why that title
and what has been the fans response to this
record?
A lot of people are really loving it which makes
me proud. I've been around for quite sometime
and it's important that the fans get quality and
only the best from me. The lead single `Back to
Love' is a representation of my own journey. I'm
trying to get back to music; back to making the
music I love and that other people love too. I love
this music and it was this very style that helped
me to become the man I am today. I'm not gonna
lie, I kinda got a bit off track for a bit and lost my
musical direction. But now, I'm really focused on
the quality. I play piano now and I am really into
the making of the music itself than I was when I
was first stepping into the game.
It really is great to hear you come back onto the
scene with `Real' RnB music because over the
years it has most definitely lost its way....
Yeah, definitely. This was very important to me.
I grew up listening to deep music from artists
like Boyz II Men, D'Angelo, Jodeci; all of those
great RnB classics. That's really what I know, that's
what is in my heart. I love having the freedom to
follow my heart and make music which means
something. As you said, RnB music has gone
more `pop' and there is pressure to put out a
record that is `trendy'.
That's what makes good music I feel....
I really couldn't agree more. (Laughs)
You are now onto your 4th studio album,
`Fly on the Wall'. How different is your latest
offering to your previous work?
This album is very different because I'm taking a
different approach to the music and I am focusing
on the `Live' aspect of music. As I mentioned
before, I'm playing the piano now and I'm
playing it on some of the tracks. On my previous
offerings, I have played live music in the form
of pianos and guitars. However, now I've taken
things to the next level and I now feature live
drums and the saxophone. Before, I did have the
live element, but not to this extent.
