In order to understand this important quote, you firstly
need to establish what success means to you and what
failure means to you. Too often, we chase a dream or a
goal that is attainable but put too much pressure onto it.
This leaves us expecting the worst and not fully giving
our intention our full attention because we feel that we
will never reach our intended goal.
Success is indeed not final. Your life should be an endless
list of unchartered territory and an ongoing trail of
new opportunities and adventures. Once you have set
one goal, work towards achieving it but once you have
fulfilled it, it is vital that you do not grow complacent.
Once one door closes, another one is sure to open.
However, this is dependent on whether you are still
actively in pursuit.
Those who have achieved success have ultimately done so
because their hunger is never satisfied. They continually
set new goals for themselves and their lives and once
they are successful in one area, they set about mastering
another. There are many people who fit in this character
group. Entrepreneurs are a prime example of this as they
pursue multiple ventures all at the same time and once
they reach one target and master one field, they set about
conquering another.
The opportunist will seize the chance at every turn to
enhance their lives. Whereas the pessimist will run away
from the chance to try something new and to take a risk
that may change their life for the better. Who are you in
your life? Are you the opportunist or the pessimist, are
you in the driving seat and in control or are you hiding in
the back as the hapless passenger?
A successful person will weather the storms and
bask in the light of their successes but they will also
recognise that their successes are not the end and that
more is around the corner to be achieved and attained.
Complacency is one thing that will never catch them
unawares. They are always on the look out for more
chances to excel and to soar.
In the same way, failure is not final. For every time that
you fall, you must find the strength from within to get
back up again. For each time you make a wrong move,
you establish what route not to take and what to do better
and different next time. Life is about learning lessons and
being willing to take another chance when all does not
go to plan. The getting up and beginning again is what
champions are made of.
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to
continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
