Being a siren of the 1960's, Sophia Loren was all about
the eyes, and usually wore a matt nude lip. Her uber
glamorous image is one of the most desired looks of the
century (and the last!) and her alluring `feline eye' look
has been recreated on many currently famous celebs.
Sophia still rock's this look today, and her look has
inspired catwalk trends even up to this season!
How to recreate Sophia Loren's Look:
Skin: Unless you are blessed with a natural tan like
Sophia, or have just come back from the Caribbean, you
might need a little help from a good olive coloured fake
tanning product for this look! For the foundation
try to keep it as natural as possible, using a light
coverage foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturiser.
Use a matte bronzer for a sun-kissed look over the
cheeks blending upwards towards your temples,
and sweep lightly across the outer forehead,
sides of the nose, and under the cheekbones.
Sophia would use a lighter coloured concealer
under her eyes, and highlight the centre of her
forehead, nose, chin, and top of cheekbones.
Eyes: Sophia's look is ALL about the eyes. To
achieve her most iconic look, sweep a mid toned
brown across the whole lid, and just under the
brow on the outer corner of the eye. Next, take
a deeper bronze and apply to the centre of the
lid working it into the crease. Then take a dark
chocolate brown or dark bronze, and apply to
the outer corner of the eye blending it inwards
and towards the crease, but only half way so that
you are almost creating a smokey sideways 'v'
shape to the eye, elongating it. Now for the fun
part! Use a jet black eyeliner pen or gel liner,
and start creating your catliner, taking it all
the way into the tear duct area, and gradually
getting thicker towards the ends of the eye,
drawing your line upwards and outwards with
a sharp edge. Fill in the space between the line
you have just created and your lash line. The
idea here is not to curve the liner or flick it,
but to create that feline look by extending the
eye outwards and upwards at the ends. Next,
apply a white or highlighting pencil into your
waterline, and line the lower lash line using a
black pencil this was a 60's look that prevailed
through the whole decade, and one that Sophia
was never seen without! Next apply lashings of
mascara to the top lashes concentrating on the
outer corners, and also onto the lower lashes for
a 'doll-like' effect. Apply falsies if you wish!
Eyebrows: Unless you have very close set eyes, start your
brows from quite low down near the bridge of the nose,
and curve the shape with small strokes of a brow pencil.
Sophia's brow shape was quite rounded, and thick, but
natural looking and groomed. Highlight the centre of the
brow bone.
Lips: Sophia wore, mostly, very pale matte lips
reminiscent of the 60's era to almost blank out the lips
completely, or a neutral shade of gloss. She would also
line her lips with a neutral lip pencil, but keep this very
natural with light strokes. You are now a 60's bombshell
and siren hooray!
