When I reflect on the qualities of a leader, the words
decision maker, motivator, strength, quiet, inspiring,
observant, integrity, honesty, reliable, intelligence and
visionary floats to the surface of my mind. I know
you're thinking it is quite a list. However, it is one that
makes me think, not everyone should be so quick to fill
those shoes. It's a major responsibility and not one to
be taken lightly.
Leaders reside in our communities, government
bodies, businesses, churches, and schools, memorable
people such as Nelson Mandela, Baroness Thatcher,
Condoleezza Rice, Sir Richard Branson, Desmond
Tutu and Ghandi, the list is indeed endless. All these
people portray and portrayed
confidence, outspokenness,
entrepreneurial flair, resilience,
evangelical presence and a
spirit of power and one last vital
ingredient, wisdom.
I believe we can all be the
leaders we want to see in our
workplace, community and in our personal lives given
the right opportunity. Many people believe becoming
a leader equates to being the boss, manager or director,
though I beg to differ.
A sign of good leadership and the making of a strong
leader is an individual who stands out among the
rest; possessing a distinctive persona. We often see
them encouraging others, searching for ways to work
more efficiently and striving to create a better life for
themselves and those around them. They boast a `go
getter attitude' and never allow challenging situations
to limit their vision. A leader cultivates individuals to
work together as a team and will motivate initiative as
well as extract positive results for the greater outcome
of all.
A leader continually develops their mindset to be
focused, analytical and forward thinking, looking
ahead in all situations. Nobody is ignored under great
leadership, no talent un-discovered, they will always
be on the lookout for individual expertises to mould a
project together. They have the ability to highlight the
potential and worth of people; to bring their confidence
to the forefront when required.
A good leader acknowledges their own strengths,
capabilities and values the knowledge of others. They
have the confidence to apologise when a mistake has
been made by their decision making,
nevertheless the spirit to move onward and
upwards to rectify the situation.
To hold the title of leadership, it is
important to understand the requirement
to sustain a passion, love and enthusiasm
of people.
In order to make lasting, positive change in your life,
you need to first take CHARGE. Become a leader of
your life and make a decision to march forward in the
direction you want to be heading in.
My Leadership Quote:
Choose carefully the leader whom you seek advice
from. Not all advice is given with positive intent, be
sure to listen to with discernment and instinct when
words of guidance are being offered. It's always said the
answers we need are already apparent; we often search
for confirmation in others. #CoachLyds
