Eartha Kitt
Forever remembered for her smash hit 'Santa Baby', the
beautiful Eartha Kitt oozed glamour and charisma, yet
was outspoken, sassy, and a woman with intelligence
despite her dough-eyed feminine image. Eartha's
makeup was classic to the 50's era much like Marilyn, but
concentrated mostly on a glowing skin and bold lip look,
that was polished but the most natural of any hollywood
star, and easy to recreate.
How to recreate Eartha Kitt's look:
Skin: Eartha's look is mostly all about the skin which was
very dewy and glowing, so unless you need the coverage,
opt for a BB cream, or tinted moisturiser. Conceal any
areas that need it, and then apply a creamy bronzer
lightly under the cheekbones and in a 'C' shape up to
your temples. Powder only if necessary. Use a peachy
blusher on the apples of the cheeks, and keep it very
subtle.
Eyes: Use a taupe coloured shadow and sweep across the
whole lid, all the way up to the eyebrows. Sometimes
Eartha would have a bold black 60's style eyeliner (later
on in her career) but mostly had it very thinly applied as
close to the lash line as possible, and tide-lined the top
lashes. You could use a brown or black for this. Curl your
lashes, and apply a volumising mascara.
Eyebrows: Eartha's eyebrows were very similar to
Marilyn's in shape, but with a slightly less exaggerated
arch. Groom through your brows with a spooly, and fill
them in with a brown shadow shade that matches your
brow colour, or a pencil.
Lips: In her earlier career Eartha would wear plummy
deep purple's on her lips that would photograph well
with black and white photography, so choose a shade
within this colour that suits you, and apply a light layer
to your lips. Highlight the cupid's bow for a rounded
pout a la Kitt!
