STRATEGIC PLANNING
After two years managing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario began gradually easing restrictions in the
first quarter of 2022. On January 31, the provincial government permitted open houses, kick starting the efforts to help
the profession return to pre-COVID business operations. By March, LSTAR resumed regular building operations.
In March, the Board of Directors recommended and approved removing Policy 5.50 and 5.51 from the LSTAR MLS®
Policies. These policies were discontinued:
·
5.50 There shall be a $35 (+HST) fee where a cancelled listing is re-listed by the same Brokerage within 14 days
of the cancellation date.
·
5.51 The existing listing brokerage may submit a new listing 14 days prior to expiry at no charge.
To support Members, the Finance Committee recommended and the Board of Directors approved that all new Members
be given a lockbox when they join LSTAR and that all existing Members be given a voucher offering a $50 discount on
the purchase of one lockbox, valid until the end of 2022.
The Directors started discussing the LSTAR office building location and ownership strategy, considering how best
to effectively and prudently serve Members into the future. The Association collaborated with Ivey Business School at
Western University on a research study. As part of the study, all LSTAR Members were invited to complete a building
survey, to share their thoughts on the future of the LSTAR building. Discussion will continue into 2023, with more Member
engagement.
For the first time in more than 20 years, LSTAR hosted a Charity Golf Tournament. It took place at the Riverbend Golf
Course on September 15. Nearly $50,000 was raised, with proceeds going to Grace Café, My Sister's Place and Youth
Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) Joan's Place.
In 2022, LSTAR established a new Member award, the Ron Richardson Memorial Award. It honours the legacy of the
late Ron Richardson, LSTAR's three-time President of 1948, 1949 and 1959. The award is given to an LSTAR Member
who personifies Ron's key leadership and philanthropic values with tangible actions through mentorship and profession-
alism in organized real estate and who shares their successes and volunteer time with compassion for others in the local
community. The recipient receives a $1,000 award to be donated to a charity of the recipient's choice within the LSTAR
catchment area, and it is made possible to the generosity of the Richardson family. The 2022 Ron Richardson Memorial
Award went to Dale Marsh.
Congratulations to Stacey Evoy, LSTAR 2016 President, for serving as 2022 President of the Ontario Real Estate
Association (OREA). Stacey did an amazing job, showcasing her leadership, professionalism and business acumen
across the province.
In 2022, implementation began on LSTAR's 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, which focuses on five key priorities: Member
Engagement; Finance and Operations; Professionalism; Partner Engagement; and Political Advocacy. In the first quarter,
the plan was operationalized and shared with Members in the April e-Bulletin newsletter.
LSTAR has achieved the following deliverables, after the first year of implementing the plan:
·
