COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE
LSTAR's Community Engagement Committee is responsible for:
·
Building collaborative relationships with key influencers.
·
Raising the awareness of LSTAR.
·
Building the LSTAR brand.
·
Advancing key initiatives within Social Responsibilities including, but not
limited to, the charitable giving (Application and beneficiaries as defined
by the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation).
In 2022, the committee recommended and the LSTAR Board of Directors
approved establishing the Ron Richardson Memorial Award, which honours the
legacy and contributions of Ron Richardson, LSTAR's three-time President of
1948, 1949, and 1959. Made possible by the generosity of the Richardson family,
the award is given to an LSTAR Member who personifies Ron's key values
with tangible actions through organized real estate leadership, mentorship
and professionalism, as well as sharing their successes and volunteer time
with compassion for others. The recipient receives a $1,000 award that will be
donated to a charity of the recipient's choice within the LSTAR catchment area to
benefit local communities. The 2022 Ron Richardson Memorial Award recipient
was Dale Marsh.
In 2022, the committee presented more than $76,000 to 12 local shelter-based
organizations. They were Anova; Indwell; Inn Out of the Cold Elgin; Investing
in Children; London Affordable Housing; Meals on Wheels London; Mission
Services of London; My Sisters' Place; St. Joseph's Hospice; The Grace Café;
Women's Rural Resource Centre of Strathroy and Area; and Youth Opportunities
Unlimited.
The grants come from LSTAR's Business Partners Program, sponsorship, various fundraising events, and the Ontario
REALTORS Care® Foundation, of which LSTAR is a proud supporter.
One of the new 2022 recipients included The Imagine Build, which is focused on building accessible homes with the
Oneida Nation of the Thames. The Imagine Build received $10,000 from LSTAR.
In addition, the LSTAR Board of Directors recommended and approved donating $10,000 to the REALTORS Care®
Canadian Red Cross Campaign to help the humanitarian crisis happening in Ukraine.

QUALITY OF LIFE Award
The LSTAR Quality of Life Award recognizes and honours outstanding contributions to the
community in accordance with one or more of the five Quality of Life Principles championed by
LSTAR, OREA and CREA. Nominations are sought from the Membership at large, but candidates
may also be named by the Community Engagement Committee, which will then recommend the
winners to the LSTAR Board of Directors. The Award is not necessarily an annual one. It is given
when a recipient is deemed worthy of recognition. At the time the Award is announced at LSTAR's
Annual General Meeting (which takes place the following year) a donation of $200 is made to
the recipient's charity of choice in their name, the recipient receives a plaque and their charitable
activities are showcased across all LSTAR media. The Award was not given out in 2022.
