Inspired by the legendary trainers
of the Golden Age of aviation,
the Sam aircraft is designed to
modern quality, comfort, and
flight standards, striving for a
perfect balance between scientific
innovation and retro style. Designed
by the Sam Aircraft company in
Montreal, Canada, the Sam is the
result of many years of R&D to
achieve its modular capabilities.
It was designed to comply with
both LSA - ASTM standards and
the Canadian AULA standards.
Its modularity makes the Sam
perfectly adapted for leisure flights,
long-distance flights as well as
for short take-offs and landings.
The low-winged aircraft are built
with a semi-monocoque structure
using a 4130 steel protection cage,
covered with an aluminium skin.
Designed to welcome tall persons,
the cabin offers comfortable space
to accommodate 6'-6'' pilots in a
tandem configuration with the pilot
in the front. Tricycle and classical
configurations are also available.
Assembly of the standard kit
requires between 700 to 900 hours
to complete and includes all needed
materials, equipment and hardware.
All supplied parts are high quality
material, including aircraft grade
hardware. All welding is done at the
factory to reduce assembly time and
maximize construction satisfaction.
The entire aircraft was
designed to accept three different
wings without any additional
airframe modifications.
Engine, fuselage, central wing,
empennage and landing gear
are common to all 3 versions.
The Sam is built with a central
wing that allows the aircraft to sit
on its main landing gear during
the inter-changeability of the
outboard wings. Thirty minutes
are sufficient for joining the
outside wings to the central plan.
From 2014 the LS wings can be
replaced by the STOL or the Cross-
country wings (CC). Outside wings
come completely assembled with
ailerons, flaps and control systems;
ready to be installed into the Sam.
The aircraft was first revealed
to the public at Oshkosh 2012
when where 30,000 attendees
had a look at its new cowl and
nearly-complete interior and
panel and first flew at the Sebring
show held at Sebring Regional
Airport in central Florida. It can
be seen at the Sun `n Fun event
at Lakeland, Florida, US in April
and again at Oshkosh in July. ·
