Cheryl Wisbrock's painting of the marsh on 76th Street took home first
place in the recent plein air exhibit.

OCEAN CITY The Art League
of Ocean City (ALOC) will host an
opening reception Friday, Sept. 6
from 5-7 p.m. for the Plein Air paint-
ing exhibit.
On Aug. 9-10, the ALOC held its
annual Plein Air event where 50 ar-
tists from six states painted at the
Boardwalk, the West Ocean City
harbor, bayside marshes and North-
side Park. The Plein Air paintings
will be on exhibit at the Ocean City
Center for the Arts during the month
of September.
The Plein Air paintings were
judged by talented watercolor artist
Jeanne Landau and prizes were
awarded. The winners were Cheryl
Wisbrock, first place, $1,000 (prize
sponsored by Paco's Paradise) for
her painting of the marsh at 76th
Street; Dorothy Harrison Braun,
second place, $500 prize sponsor-
ed by OC Eks Lodge, for her paint-
ing of a fishing boat; and Dennis
Young, third place, $250 prize spon-
sored by Worcester County, for his
pastel painting of a beach house
and boats docked on 94th Street in
Ocean City. Honorable mentions
went to Debra Howard, Lissa Ab-
rams and Tinsel Hughes.
On Sunday, Aug. 11, there were
22 artists who participated in a
quick draw event that was held at
the Boardwalk next to the Life-Sav-
ing Station Museum. The quick
draw winners were first place, Ann
Crostic, $100; second place, Ann
Schaefer, $75; and third place, $50,
Cheryl Wisbrock. Honorable men-
tion went to Valerie Witowski. The
judge for the quick draw was Michel
Demanche from Salisbury Univer-
sity.
Featured in the galleria along
with the Plein Air works during the
month of September will be the ex-
hibit "FLUENCY: Salisbury Univer-
sity Faculty and Student Artwork in
Dialogue." The exhibit will be curat-
ed by Salisbury University Art De-
partment Chair Brooke Rogers. The
exhibit will feature works by profes-
sors, each paired with work by a
student.
During the month of September,
Faye Kempton will be the artist in
residence. Swing by the Center for
the Arts to see Faye's gorgeous
dichroic glass jewelry and watercol-
or and acrylic paintings. In addition
to the dichroic glass jewelry and her
paintings, Kempton is also a sculp-
tor and a stone carver.
Carl Forsberg will be featured in
the member spotlight with his por-
trait-like photographs of birds. He
has always had an interest in pho-
tography and things that fly. He
loves to photograph birds which he
does mostly in the comforts of his
own backyard.
"In my work of bird photography,
I attempt to capture the bird's indi-
viduality, personality, charm and
mood at the time of the shot," said
Forsberg. "I may spend days, into
weeks and thousands of shots for
one keeper."
