OCEAN CITY The Ocean City
Beach Patrol will hold the second
pre-employment physical skills ev-
aluation for the 2014 summer sea-
son on Saturday, Aug. 31.
There are no pre-certification re-
quirements and experience in
ocean rescue is not necessary.
Registration for the test begins at
10 a.m. at Dorchester Street and
the Boardwalk, with orientation and
a full day of testing at 11:30 a.m.
Candidates will swim 400m, run
300m, perform simulated swimming
rescues and demonstrate the ca-
pacity to run fast in timed sprint rac-
es.
Water-related activities take
place in the Atlantic Ocean with all
running activities take place on the
beach.
Although pre-registration is not
required, candidates can pre-regis-
ter for the test by visiting www.oco-
cean.com/ocbp and clicking on the
"Register for Upcoming Tests" link
under "Site Updates."
The Beach Patrol requires ac-
ceptable proof of age of all candi-
dates, including a driver's license,
birth certificate or U.S. passport.
Without proper proof of age, appli-
cants will not be permitted to partic-
ipate.
Following the physical skills eval-
uation, those meeting qualifying
standards are eligible for appoint-
ment to the second Surf Rescue
Academy, which will begin in May
2014.
The academy is eight days long
and all training and certifications will
be provided.
