Standardbred State Championships The annual Standardbred State Championship was held on 28th April 2013 in perfect weather conditions at the Baldivis Horse and Pony Club grounds. With 38 horses and handlers in attendance the classes began with eastern states judge Glenda Lovell (NSW) commencing the day with Best Presented Exhibit. This class was open to both Pure breds and Partbred Standardbreds and had 35 neat and tidy horses and handlers enter the ring to present for judging. After much deliberation Champion was awarded to the immaculately turned out Adina Park Darcy Woods and handler Kristie Morrone, with Reserve going to Crystal Rocket and handler Rebecca Phillips. The Partbreds were up next with the Grand Champion Partbred award going to Devil’s Choice, who had a bit more pizazz over his less seasoned opponent Cassachi Park Poseidon who went Reserve. The Purebreds started and with no junior 3 yrs and under entered this year, judging moved onto the Senior Stallion Class. I Am Zac completed a lovely workout and the young stallion of 4 years was awarded Champion Senior Stallion. The senior mares 4-8yrs were up next with the finalist being Crystal Rocket. Senior Mares 7 yrs and over had six horses presented with the finalist being the awesome moving Dynamite Trunkey, who also went on to be Champion Senior Mare. The geldings were in great form this year with Adina Park Darcy Woods keeping his winning streak for Finalist in the 4-9yrs class. All Adina Park Darcy Woods and Dynamite Trunkey had the mighty challenge against each other for the Supreme Senior award. With side profiles called for and much deliberation the judge called forward the big black gelding, Adina Park Darcy Woods for Supreme Senior and this year’s winner of Grand Champion Led Purebred Exhibit for 2013 making him the first gelding to have won this title. Photos by Cherished Images. a chance to show her competitors how it was done, taking out the Champion Junior Handler award with Cassandra Abbott snapping up Reserve. Alexandra Markoski was awarded Champion Wrapt Up retained Finalist in the Geldings 1012yrs and Peter Pan in the Senior Gelding 13 yrs and over class. The three then entered the ring for Champion Senior Gelding, which was awarded to Adina Park Darcy Woods after the judge asked for side profiles to be shown and the lovely little gelding Satinka Park Ashtaar came up the ranks for a well-deserved Reserve. Senior Handler over Hayley Baker, who went Reserve. After a short lunch break judging of the ridden commenced with Smartest on Parade. This class had sixteen entrants with horses and riders shining in the sunshine. The perfectly presented duo of Adina Park Darcy Woods and rider Kristie Morrone were eventually called forward to receive Champion Smartest on Parade and the lovely pinto gelding Satinka Park Ashtaar and rider Jackie Searies were pulled forward for Reserve. The Junior Rider class produced great competition with Elissa Kettlewell taking out Finalist. Jackie Searies rode a lovely workout to secure Finalist in Senior Rider and Champion Rider of the Day, with Elissa Kettlewell picking up Reserve. Devil’s Choice was awarded Grand Champion Ridden Partbred Exhibit for 2013. Throughout the ridden purebred classes Adina Park Darcy Woods caught the eye of the judge to be awarded Finalist in the Ridden Hack over 15.1hh, Lightweight Hack and Show Horse classes. Satinka Park Ashtaar was awarded Finalist in the ridden Gelding or Stallion, Hack up to and including 15.1hh and Medium/ Heavyweight classes, securing his spot in the Grand Champion Ridden Workout. Designed to NV secured her spot in Grand Champion Ridden by winning the ridden Mare class and the big moving Spunky Monkey grabbed his chance by winning the Hunter Hack class. These four horses then entered the ring for judging of the Grand Champion Ridden award. With a bit more flair than his rivals the big black gelding Adina Park Darcy Woods and rider Kristie Morrone was called forward for their first major award of Grand Champion Ridden Purebred Exhibit 2013. The pair only started under saddle back in November 2012 and this is only their fifth ridden show. They also are the first pair to win both the State title Led and Ridden awards.
