PCAWA State Tetrathlon Championships 2013 is an exciting year for Tetrathlon in WA with an Invitational Tetrathlon competition being held in Perth in conjunction with the PCA National Championships in September. Tetrathlon is a unique sport that involves four phases – running, shooting, swimming and a ridden cross country phase. It is based on the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon (fencing omitted). This year’s PCAWA State Championship event was held on 6-7th of April at Log Fence Pony Club, Yarloop, for the first time. This small club has fantastic facilities and a hard working committee and the result was a fantastic weekend for all competitors. With everyone vying for a spot on the State Invitational Tetrathlon Team, competition was tough and results were outstanding, showing that our young athletes had put in months of hard training. The running phase is held over a 1500m track with points being awarded or deducted, depending on the optimum time. This year the two outstanding runs for the event were produced by Bryce Crook, from Eastern Hills Horse and Pony Club, who ran the 1500m in 5mins and Lucy Oorschot from Esperance Horse and Pony Club who ran the distance in 5mins and 20 seconds. Shooting conditions were tough with a cross Lauren Sams-Hayes of Serpentine Horse and Pony Club. Photo by Redfoto Photography. The Log Fence Pony Club offers a challenging cross country course that runs through beautiful undulating farm lands. The traditional Tetrathlon gate and slip rail were included in the course and competitors did a fantastic job of conquering ‘Log Fence’ with varying degrees of success. PCAWA looks forward to the next two years of Tetrathlon at Log Fence. Anyone wanting to see our young athletes compete in this exciting discipline should mark September in their diaries and make sure they come down to the State Equestrian Centre to see WA compete against teams from other States in the National Invitational Tetrathlon Competition.
