40th Anniversary EWA Show
2013 marks the 40th Anniversary of EWA Show Horse of the Year. and the Show Horse committee is preparing to celebrate the many horses, ponies and riders who have wond this award over the years. The first ever HOY Competition was held at the Osborne Park Agricultural Show in 1973 and the three classes were conducted at the completion of the regular ring events. The successful Pony of the Year under 14h was awarded to the beautiful 12.1h pony Oakover Fiona shown by the Parker Family from York, the Galloway went to the very lovely grey mare Whimsical owned and ridden by Val Mayger and the Hack to the handsome bay Regal Beau owned by Lance Ludgate and Rosalind Robinson. From its humble beginnings at Osborne Park Show the HOY event moved to the Royal Agricultural Show Grounds in Claremont, from there it went to Orange Grove Pony Club Grounds before eventually moving to the SEC upon the completion of the Indoor arena in the mid 80’s. In 2013 the HOTY Show has grown to such an extent that classes will be conducted over three days with the Show Hunters taking centre stage on Friday 30th August from 2pm in the afternoon, then the Show Horse classes filling all of Saturday and the final day Sunday 1st September seeing the Rural Show Horses and Intermediate Show Horses strut their stuff. EWA members from all over the state descend on the SEC for this event turning the centre into a hive of activity, complete with trade stands and of course beautiful horses! The EWA Show Horse Committee are working hard to make this 2013 show a memorable one for the event’s 40th Anniversary, so in addition to the Show Horse events they will start the weekend’s proceedings on the Thursday night (29th August) with a Rubythemed Cocktail Party in the bar area at the SEC, then on Friday Night 30th August, while the Hunter events are taking place the SEC bar will be open and various hot food vendors will be in attendance. Then on Saturday evening
