30th WAQHA State Championships
The 30th Annual WAQHA State Championships was held over the Easter long weekend on the 29th, 30th and 31st of March at the State Equestrian Centre. WAQHA were lucky enough to bring back Ruth Ellen, from Texas USA. Ruth was the state show judge at the 2010 WAQHA State Championships. A brisk Friday morning start with the Hunter Under Saddle (HUS), first up was the Junior Horse HUS which was taken out by Inscription, ridden by Karen Cornish. AMQHA All Age was taken out by youth rider Nick Balchin aboard Winderadeen Cee a Passer, who also won the AMQHA Youth HUS. Amateur Senior and Senior Horse was taken out by RQH Jiminy Cricket ridden by Monique Holden, RQH Jiminy Cricket then went on to win the Senior Youth HUS ridden by Courtney Holden, the 2 year old HUS was won by Chips Sweet Rosalie ridden by Brian Cramp, Junior Youth went to Emily Stewart riding Inquisitive Profit. AMQHA Amateur was won by Sharon Currie riding SOQ Deliberate Concent and the Select Amateur was won by Mary Treloar. Hunt Seat Equitation quickly followed; and the winners were - Amateur Karen Cornish, Junior Youth Emily Stewart, Senior Youth Nick Balchin and Select Amateur was awarded to Jenny Barnes. After a short break, the Hacking and Dressage started with EFA accredited Marcia Devenney judging. Open 14-15hh was won by Heez Zippin Hot ridden by Karen Nicoletto. Open 15hh + won by SOQ Deliberate Concent ridden by Melissa Emery. Senior Youth was won by Courtney Holden and Amateur Hack went to Asha Morris. A lovely sunny day saw the dressage being held in the outside international dressage arena. Open Novice 2A Dressage was won by Prediction ridden by Asha Morris who also took out Open Prelim 1C Dressage and Amateur Novice 2B Dressage. Senior Youth Dressage was won by Nick Balchin riding Winderadeen Cee a Passer, Select Amateur was taken out by Mary Treloar aboard Annlee Top Deck. Friday night saw the Youth and Amateur Western Pleasure Features as well as the Youth Judging. Youth Western Pleasure was won by Kayla Rainoldi aboard her black mare RQH Bam Ba Lam. Amateur Western Pleasure winner was Sharon Currie and SOQ Deliberate Concent. Saturday morning began with an opening ceremony with the American and Australian National anthem played. The show was officially opened by past WAQHA President and WAQHA Life Member Mary Treloar. A minute silence was held for WAQHA member Rick Jeffes who tragically passed away earlier in the week. Condolences go to Rick’s family and friends from the WAQHA committee and members. The first event was Amateur Showmanship and this was won by Karen Cornish and Inscription. Stewart with Inquisitive Profit. Senior Youth was won by Kayla Rainoldi and RQH Bam Ba Lam. Select Amateur was won by Rita Driscoll showing This Zipnlee. AMQHA Amateur was won by Phayme Tedd and Zerox whilst AMQHA Youth was won by Nick Balchin and Winderadeen Cee a Passer.

Halter classes quickly followed with large entry numbers in all classes. Champion Mare/Filly was won by JCG Blonde Bomber shown by Carl Planke and Reserve went to SOQ Sweet Scenario shown by Rikki Deville. Champion Gelding was awarded to Coliban Solid Gold shown by Roxanne Johnston and Reserve went to Futera Proclamation shown by Steve Blackaller. Champion Stallion/Colt was awarded to Touched shown by Carl Planke and Reserve went to Made in China shown by Janeen McRobert. Next on were the Amateur Halters class, Champion Mare/Filly, once again won by JCG Blonde Bomber shown by Carl Planke and Reserve went to SOQ Sweet Scenario shown by Rikki Deville. Champion Gelding was Coliban Solid Gold shown by Roxanne Johnston and Reserve went to Futera Proclamation shown by Steve Blackaller. Champion Stallion/Colt went to Touched shown by Carl Planke and Reserve went to Made in China shown by Janeen McRobert. Champion Youth Halter Mare/Filly was taken out JCG Blonde Bomber shown by Shelina Walther, with Reserve going to SOQ Sweet Scenario and Nick Balchin. Champion Gelding was awarded to Futera Proclamation and James Blackaller, with Reserve going to Dakota Zulu Lisimba and Jaiden Thompson. AMQHA Halter then followed and the Champion Mare/Filly was once again taken out by JCG Blonde Bomber shown by Rikki Deville and Reserve went to SOQ Sweet Scenario shown by Jaiden Thompson. AMQHA Champion Gelding was awarded to Coliban Solid Gold and Roxanne Johnston with Reserve going to Cash for Zipnlee and Sarah Stuart. After a short break, the Yearling Lungeline, and Led Trail were held. Lungeline was won by Kiss Me Good shown by Gary Marshall. Led Trail was won by Tally S A Gift from Chips shown by Shellina Walther. Hunter in Hand was next on the program which was taken out by More Zippin Mischief shown by Karen Nicoletto. To reduce time for the trail class and enable an earlier finish on the Sunday, some trail events were held on the Saturday night. 2yr Trail was won by Chips Sweet Rosalie and Brian Cramp, Senior Horse was won by Joyful Firefly and Bridget De Bijl from 11 entries. Amateur Junior was awarded to Inscription and Karen Cornish, Senior Youth went to Kayla Rainoldi and RQH Bam Ba Lam. AMQHA Amateur was won by Sharon Currie riding SOQ Deliberate Concent.
