T
he Financial Literacy Committee
of the Massachusetts Credit Un-
ion League has announced that
the League will sponsor six college
sponsorships to be awarded in late
April of 2014. The scholarship award
will be limited to high school seniors
only. The six scholarships of $1,500
each will be awarded one to each of the
six chapters of the League.
Eligibility is based on certain criteria:
1. Eligible candidates are limited to
high school seniors who will be en-
rolled in an undergraduate college
degree program during the 2014-
2015 academic year.
2. Applicant or parent/guardian must
be a member of the sponsoring
credit union.
3. The credit union must be a member
in good standing with the Massa-
chusetts Credit Union League, Inc.
4. Each applicant must complete a
current League scholarship applica-
tion form and submit it with the
other required material to the spon-
soring credit union.
5. Each credit union will select its top
three applications and forward
them to their chapter president,
accompanied by the evaluation
sheet showing the criteria and rela-
tive weights which was mailed to
the credit unions in the 2014 Col-
lege Scholarship Program package.
These applications must be accom-
panied by a cover letter from the
sponsoring credit union CEO verify-
ing that each applicant and/or par-
ent/guardian is a member of the
credit union.
All students must submit their com-
plete applications with all items re-
quested to be eligible for consideration:
1. Students must submit a typewritten
essay of 250 words or less about a
person or event that has been an
inspiration to them and how it has
affected his/her outlook on life.
2. An electronic transcript of grades.
Each chapter will select its scholarship
winner by using same evaluation crite-
ria as the individual credit unions es-
say, grades, and extracurricular/
community activities.
Although each chapter is encouraged to
sponsor its own scholarship program,
each chapter will determine its own
winners and submit its top application
to the League for consideration. The
League requests that there be no
"double winners" students who are
awarded scholarships by both the
League and the chapter.
The announcement of the League's
2014 College Scholarship Program was
mailed to each member credit union,
along with the rules and procedures
sheet and a sample application form.
Because the League will use the criteria
on its application form to evaluate ap-
plicants, it recommends that credit un-
ions and chapters use that application
form.
Credit unions must submit their top
three choices to their chapter president
by Tuesday, March 18. Each chapter
president must submit the chapter's
top entry to the League no later than
Tuesday, April 8.
