A Cut Above
A Cut Above
Interview with Bob Johnston, Category Director, Bakery
What is your primary goal of the A Cut Above program?
To help our retailers understand that they should own the position of the leading bakery shop within their marketplace. They should be leading in the market; not following. In doing so, they gain more of the market share as well as garner more bottom line profits. This program helps them to be innovators without a whole lot of investment or special “expertise” from them. Our program provides artisanal products that the stores can sell, but you don’t necessarily have to be an artisan to offer them to your customers.

What are some unique items that you offer?
We offer everything from great breads to single-serve desserts to fudge and just about everything else you can think of for your bakery department. One of our goals is to provide enough variety that we are truly a solution for our retail partners. Some examples are a truly delectable line of bakery products from a producer in Canada called Première Moisson. At Première Moisson, they actually mill their own flours to ensure they meet their high standards for taste and quality. The owner actually mills the flour! Another shining star in our line-up is Happle Pies. Happle Pies is the only 100% USDA Certified Organic supplier of pies in the US. Their offering includes apple, cherry, and blueberry – and for the holiday season, we’ll also offer pumpkin and sweet potato
