From the rolling hills of the historic Amana Colonies comes Happle’s hand crafted USDA certified organic pies. Nestled there with the backdrop of oaken timber, you’ll find Happle’s bright new manufacturing facility. Years of expertise and dedication have brought forth a product line full of the best certified organic fruits combined with only certified organic spelt flour. Taste and see. It’s all talk until you experience the complexity of flavor and pure satisfaction that’s in every bite of Happles apple, cherry, blueberry, peach, pumpkin, and our new sweet potato pies. For a little background on our company we remember our small retail store founded in the early 1990’s by Jim Happel and his daughter Tamra Happel-Garman. The goal was to offer high-end baked goods and coffees. We took the family name and combined it with “apple” to form Happle’s. Keeping the high standards, it was a natural to transition to organics because of our love for the land, and to contribute to overall happiness and quality of life. We did so in 2004. Good experience brings reward. Happle’s is the only certified organic pie facility in the U.S.A. capable of large volume. This requires the ability to source product by personally maintaining relationships directly with the farmer. A reputation built by meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of product tracking, cleanliness, safety, and we know where those blueberries came from and what market shelf they were purchased from. Blend these key elements with a strong product retail performance, and you have it. Sales surged 42% at the wholesale level from 2010 to 2012. In our new facility we expect to see a further 50% growth in 2013. We use no animal products in our fruit pie recipes, no lard in our wonderful pie crusts. This opens the door to more diverse clientele who may have religious or dietary concerns. Always NON GMO and trans fat free, our pies boast a 100% spelt crust, a must for those avoiding genetically modified wheat. Our fruit fillings are a symphony to taste. Cherries allowed to ripen right on the tree, imagine that. The natural and normal function of the plant brings the full spectrum of flavors without artificial flavor enhancers. At Happle’s our responsibility to land stewardship extends to energy efficiencies throughout our operation, with the latest technical advancements in heating and cooling as well as to our production equipment. We are often exemplary and are continually open to new opportunities in advancing sensible, sustainable, food production and growing methods. Offers by various Universities to participate in research, as well as the recent Gubernatorial appointment of Happle’s VP, Tamra Garman, to the Iowa Organic Advisory Council, speak well to our strong commitment to quality in everything we do. Let us invite you to see for yourself. Taste the Happle’s organic difference. HappleGourmet.com 16 ~ Fresh Products 2013 - 2014 Annual Catalog
