Looking back at culture - churches and monasteries and convents Experience the culture in the footsteps of the monks C ycle or walk through the culture history of Lolland-Falster by the old road of the monks. The road goes from Glücksburg in Germany to Lolland-Falster and Zealand to Roskilde and includes a series of clearly marked cultural monuments such as museums and other attractions. You may e.g. follow the route to the old barracks of Poles in Tågerup, the chief’s grave at Hoby or the convent that was the basis of the creation of Maribo. The monks’ road is an international biking route, and it is an exceptionally scenic route – also perfect for a walk. In Denmark the route has signs carrying the routes for bikers 88 + 89. Find more at: www.munkevejen.dk The rosy churches And suddenly there is a glaring rosy colour. This means that you have caught sight of the many rosy churches at Lolland-Falster. The legend says that the somewhat distinctive colour is due to a wish to please the mother of Christian 4th, the queen dowager Sophie, whose coat of arms had the rosy colour. The playground of the squires Only few places in the country you will find as many estates as on Lolland-Falster. The entire region has all through the history belonged to kings and squires, and today several of the more than 40 estates have opened their doors. You could e.g. experience the modern life of an estate at the biological estate Knuthenlund or step back in time at the Reventlow museum at Pederstrup.
