Stiftsmuseet and Frilandsmuseet i Maribo
A
t Stiftsmuseet in Maribo you will see an impressive museum building from 1890. The old museum presents a series of exhibitions that have been important to the local history of the region. You can e.g. learn about the beet Poles, see the beautifully ornamented furniture of the peasants master from Toreby and the impressive exhibition of watches from the Middle Ages and up to the beginning of the 20th century. As from week 7 the temporary exhibition ”Viden i tiden - Maribos bogsamling” about one of the first public libraries in the country. The exhibition comprises about 2000 unique books from the 18th century and covers works by the writers of that time and good advice as to almost any subject and travel reports and a complete set of the botanical work Flora Danica.
Since 1927 it has been possible in Maribo to enjoy a visit to the third biggest Open Land museum. The little pearl has for more than 80 years excited the visitors by its beautiful location. At the Open Air Museum the everyday life of ordinary people is illustrated in a sensual and easily understandable way, with small scenarios communicating the story about living in the country in the 19th century. The original houses and objects give free rein to your senses and fantasy to imagine how it was to live in the cold, low-ceilinged rooms, the shared sleeping facilities, the hard physical work, the reek from the manure heap and whatever was part of life in ”the old days”.
