CLOSE TO... Visiting the islands
Experience the small pearls at the South Sea islands
ell protected by Zealand to the north, Lolland to the south and Falster to the east, the Smålandshav conceals the most beautiful small island nations. Put your mind at ease among the cosy old houses at Fejø, visit the plantations at Lilleø or go listen to jazz music at Femø. The little pearls of the South Sea islands offer a lot for any taste for a full-day trip or maybe the whole week. So jump on board one of the small ferries and experience one of the most evocative corners at Lolland-Falster.
W
Fejø, Femø, Askø, Lilleø, Skalø... The cosy islands of the Smålandshav are simply made for bikers. The traffic is calm, distances are small and there is almost always a possibility to provision a little and to quench your thirst at the grocer’s or at one of the many local stands by the road. You get there with one of the small ferries from Bandholm or Kragenæs and the trip itself is also quite an experience.
TIP
Fruitful experiences from Askø and Lilleø
Juicy, red apples and a fertile landscape with grazing cattle. The small islands Askø and Lilleø are situated right in the heart of the northernmost bay of Lolland, a protected area, that makes the islands just perfect for growing fruit and in particular the grapes for one the best white wines in Denmark, the Lilleø wine. The islands are interconnected by a 700 meter long barrage and the distance between the harbour of Asko and the furthermost bank of Lilleø is only a little less than five kilometres.

Femø - an acquaintance filled with jazz music
Every summer thousands of people visit the undulating nature and wonderful beaches at Femø. However, the nature is not the only attraction; so is also the annual jazz festival and the women’s camp that ever since the feminist period has turned the island upside down. The rest of the year silence rules in the old glacial landscape, with only about 150 permanent residents.
Vejrø - the paradise of Smålandshavet
Vejrø is situated like a little, green pearl in the Smålandshav between Lolland and the southern part of Zealand. The island has only a few residents and is primarily laid out as an exclusive holiday paradise of luxury housing facilities and locally made gastronomy. You are welcome to come in your own boat or by plane, but transport can be arranged from Kragenæs, see more at www.vejroe.dk
