COLLEGIATE
WAKE SERIES
for months now in the 2013/14 school year, colleges across
the country have been traveling to compete in empire Wake's
collegiate Wake series. the collegiate Wake series is for aspir-
ing young riders to showcase their high-flying wakeboard skills
to teams from universities nationwide. now in the 5th season,
collegiate Wake has garnered a loyal following of event sponsors
with a growing number of participating universities.
competitors in the collegiate Wake series spend countless
hours traveling thousands of miles to represent their university far
from campus. together they encourage each other to go bigger
and push the limits.
rob mendieta of empire Wake is the event organizer and offi-
cial mc of the tour. During the 2012/13 season, mendieta racked
up 12,500 miles of travel between events. on top of being a trav-
eling mc, mendieta is tasked with finding key event sponsors.
mendieta has chosen marinemax as a prime sponsor for three of
the tour stops.
sponsoring the tour stops in minneapolis, atlanta, and tampa,
marinemax is proud to be a part of the wakeboard community. By
sponsoring these competitions, marinemax hopes to ensure the
continued development of wakeboarding as a competitive sport.
as a prime sponsor of the collegiate Wake series, marinemax
provides a nautique super air G23 to pull wakeboarders through-
out the competition. ask the competing riders about the G23, and
they'll tell you, "it's massive," "so much pop it's nuts," "by far my
favorite wake." the nautique G series provides a world class wake
with innovation that excites all wakesport enthusiasts.
each stop of the tour is an all-day event with riders compet-
ing in the beginner, intermediate, advanced, open, women, and
wakeskate divisions. there are several qualifying rounds to decide
who will ultimately be invited to compete in the national champi-
onship. for the universities invited to the national championship,
teams will have to decide on their top 8 riders to compete.
the 2013/2014 tour season finished in april with the cham-
pionship round hosted at the Hilton resort in on lake mead in
las Vegas, nevada. this was one epic throwdown as arizona
state's Wake Devils competed for their second consecutive cham-
pionship win in the final round against rollins college. arizona
state maintained their championship status and will be a big
target going into next season.
Past tournament champions also include University of
texas, University of south florida, and chico state University. With
a growing number of colleges choosing to compete, marinemax
is proud to encourage college level wakesports and sponsor the
collegiate Wake series.
