Pam Wyatt took a Women on Water class with her daughter.
she says, "my husband was thrilled that we started taking the
initiative to become involved so that we can share more of the
responsibility with him. the astonishment on his face when our
daughter docked the boat was priceless! there is also great
peace of mind knowing we are now more capable of handling an
emergency if necessary."
you might consider challenging yourselves to take your boating
experience to the next level -- and really maximize family time on
the boat. Plan a vacation to a new location on board your vessel
or a marinemax charter yacht. to prepare, take a chartplotting and
navigation class, offered at some marinemax stores.
"We go old school in this class, teaching with paper nautical
charts, parallel rules, and dividers," says capt. Keith lake, who
teaches classes at marinemax clearwater. "We teach latitude and
longitude, and how to measure it. We figure out distance, times,
speed, and what heading you need to avoid sandbars and jetties."
the clearwater class also covers how to modify preferences
on a chartplotter, including local time, head up instead of north
up, and changing color contours. "this segment of the class is
really geared toward making chartplotters most useful based on
customers' preferences," lake says.
Whether you need an intro to boating class or a navigation
lesson, marinemax can help make sure every member of your
family is confident in their boating skills to ensure maximum
enjoyment of life on the water.
