the first annual Boston Whaler captiva rendezvous was
held march 7th and 8th at the beautiful south seas resort on
captiva island.
strong winds and unseasonably cool temperatures did not
deter 18 Boston Whaler owner boats and 47 guests from having a
blast. the boats began arriving throughout the day on friday with
captain and crew members in great spirits sharing the adventures
of their respective challenges. many took advantage of the demo
rides on the all-new Boston Whaler 230 Vantage, 270 Vantage,
the innovative 345 conquest and 350 outrage as well as the
370 outrage that were provided by Boston Whaler and marinemax.
the menu for the evening boasted heavy hors d'oeuvres
and cocktails. south seas island resort prepared tables laden
with wonderfully prepared food. a tiered table with a variety of
cheeses, well-seasoned bruschetta and dips to start out. then an
elaborate taco making station with everything to make yours the
way you prefer and carving station with a wonderfully prepared
turkey. there was more than enough assortment and excellent
appetizers to satiate the pickiest gourmand.
Boston Whaler President, Huw Bower, along with V.P. of
marketing, sales & customer service, Jeff Vaughn, addressed
the crowd detailing the agenda for the following day's activities,
which included an option to take part in a fun fishing tournament
or a guided scenic cruise to a sandbar island for food, fun and
games. People continued to mingle into the evening while two
70-inch tVs mounted on the towers of the 370 outrage and
345 conquest played Boston Whaler videos.
the morning broke a bit gloomy but soon changed to a more
typical clear blue southwest florida sky. Jackets were being shed
as the armada began its passage. marinemax captain, tom Healy,
led the group passing by several rustic fishing lodges, beautiful
homes and the quaint lighthouse at the inlet of Boca Grande.
the cruise destination was a protected sand spit and the Boston
Whaler team had set up a grand beach party complete with music,
games, food and drinks.
corn hole and bolaball were immediately popular with the
crowd while others helped themselves to hamburgers. the Boston
Whaler crew challenged the marinemax staff in attendance to a
tug of war. the teams were divided into equal numbers per-side.
the struggle lasted several minutes with lots of groaning and
moaning. in the end, marinemax eked out a victory.
captain Healy organized a cannon ball contest from atop the
hardtop of the 350 outrage. the participants, young and not so
young, did their best to create the largest splash there were
even some father daughter attempts. some impressive wipeouts
were mixed with several good tries. in the end it was perfect form
that won the suspenseful competition.
after all was said and done everyone agreed that the first
annual Boston Whaler captiva rendezvous was a great time and
certainly should be an annual affair.
