Cattle Call Queen
Alex Baran
Congratulations
Cattle Call Queen
Australian born Alexandra Elizabeth
Baran, is the eighteen-year-old daughter of
Hank and Sue Baran of Brawley. Standing 5'7"
this blue-eyed brunette is currently a senior
and honor student at Brawley Union High
School where she is the President of the BUHS
Rodeo Club, a member of Link Crew, and
Varsity Wildcat Volleyball player.
Alex's love of horses and anything
with four legs and fur was realized at a young
age, but it wasn't until she started riding at
age 7 that her equine passion turned into a
love of rodeo and the western way of life. Her
hobby blossomed into not only her favorite
pastime, but also that of her entire family.
Winning her rst belt buckle for 4-H
horse showmanship at the age of 9, this
cowgirl enjoyed youth horse shows showing
in both English and Western classes earning
many champion ribbons and high point
awards, with her most recent accomplishment,
winning the Senior Showmanship title at our
county fair and advancing to Senior Large
Animal Round Robin placing second. Alex got
the rodeo bug, which kept her busy barrel
racing and pole bending.
As an 11 year member of M&M 4-H
Club, Miss Baran's other accomplishments are
many earning the rank of Platinum Star,
County winner for her horse record book multiple years and chosen as a recipient of an Imperial County 4-H
Achievement Award. Alex also has been busy in the swine livestock project, and is looking forward to raising
her second pig for the fair. When Alex isn't busy with activities she can be found working in her family's Italian
restaurant, Grasso's, in El Centro.
Every girl loves to sparkle and Alex is no exception. Attending her rst Cattle Call Parade and Rodeo
was the icing on the cake and all it took to set her sights on one day becoming Cattle Call's leading lady,
which she did when she was crowned the very rst Jr. Cattle Call Queen in 2006, and Teen Queen in 2010.
As she eyes the triple crown of the 2014 Cattle Call Queen title, Alex has that same determination and
excitement and is proud to serve Brawley Cattle Call and its supporting industries.
