Housing and Land Costs
Housing
While national home prices
have seen an increase of over 20%
since 2012, Imperial County has
experienced a growth rate of 16%
in the last 12 months. The median
home price has increased to
$195,000 from $160,000 in 2013,
county wide. The City of Brawley
has seen tremendous growth in the
past year with a growth rate of
almost 30% while the median
home price remains slightly below
the county average. This is particu-
larly good news as it indicates that
homes remain a ordable while also
experiencing above average appre-
ciation.
Land Costs
With over 500,000 acres of
fertile agricultural farm land and an
abundance of water the Imperial
County has seen incredible growth
in land values year over year. Still
low in comparison to California
standards the values have risen by
an average of 15% annually. The
average price per acre of farm land
is approximately $7,500. While the
farm economy has enjoyed its share
of growth, land values in the Com-
mercial, Industrial and Manufactur-
ing categories have remained
steady. Typical commercial leases
range from $.50 - $1 per square foot
and vacant commercial land sales
range from $5 - $15 per square foot.
Property Tax Rate is
approximately $1.16 per
$100 of assessed value
(1.16%). Bonded
indebtedness for county,
city, schools, hospital district
and other taxing agencies is
equated in that basis.
