Famous Nail Stylist
EMMA HArris
mma was working in the
fitness industry and not
enjoying it, one day her
husband suggested her to do a
nail course because she loved
getting her nails done. So Emma
called the Beauty Academy in
Drogheda, where she was living at
the time and booked the full Nail
Technology course! That was in
2008. "I loved it from the start and
worked hard during the course. I
even set up a table in the reception
area of the gym, I worked on my
days off and did members' nails
really cheap for the practice. When
the results of the exams came back
I found out I had achieved the only
distinction in Ireland that year!" says
Emma.
Emma continued doing nails in
the gym and quickly decided that
she wanted to teach other people
so enrolled in the ITEC Teacher
Training course also in the Beauty
Academy. Emma worked there
teaching nails for a while and
then went on the Astonishing
Nails Educator training ran by Asu
Training Academy in Dublin. It was
there that she met Suzanne Alcock
Thompson and Jisun Han. Now she
works between the academy for
Suzanne and Jisun's salon: Studio J
in Swords.
"I love my job. Especially as I get
to have that variety between salon
work and training. I believe that
training is so important. You can
never have enough knowledge
or experience. So I try to attend
training as often as I can. I have
attended courses with Peppyn
Borrel, Wim Umans, Tracey Lee,
Sam Biddle, Irina Zotova and most
recently with Elena Popova. I'm
going to Holland at the start of
November for nail art training with
Natalia Larina and I can't wait!" says
Emma.
Emma has been busy lately training
for competitions and we think
it paid off. She came away from
the Irish Nail Championships with
four 1st places and the title of
International Nail Master. The week
after Emma competed in the North
UK Championships in Manchester
where she achieved two 1st places
and two 2nd places and again the
title of International Nail Master. "I
really enjoyed competing but I'm
glad of a break now! I'm thinking
about London in February but we'll
see..."

My favourite nail colours are:
I love blue; for holidays I love neon
pink; and number 3 has to be
anything glittery! I'm a total magpie
:)
My Favourite nail tool to use:
It has to be the humble dotting
tool. It has so many uses!
My first set of nails were:
Lumpy. But not actually that bad
if I'm honest. My husband still
reminds me that my first manicure
was on him after the first day of my
nail course! I did it on an ironing
board in our kitchen!
My favourite nail shape is:
At the moment I'm loving lipstick
but I have yet to wear a full set. I
tend to either wear long stilettos for
occasions, or short and square for
work.
My Favourite nail art is:
Constantly changing. I get obsessed
by new techniques when I learn
them.
What is it like to win
International Nail Master?
Overwhelming! I didn't expect to
do so well and to do it again in
Manchester the next week really
topped it off! I was so happy the
training I did with Elena Popova
in June paid off. It just shows that
training, training, training is the key.
My favourite thing about doing
nails is:
I get to do what I love and chat to
my lovely clients all day. It's a great
job!
If I could choose to train with
anyone I want, who would that
be?
I'm heading off to Eindhoven in
November to train with the amazing
Natalia Larina so I can't wait for
that. But I also love looking at Pisut
Masanong's work. I'd absolutely
love to see him at work.
What I have on my nails now is.....
Mockingbird by Perfect Match
with black leopard print, oh and
diamonds of course!
