I started star nail in 1981 with
a $200.00 investment in
nail paint. I sold it on Venice
Beach. We quickly started
selling to salons and became
a professional nail supplier of
cost effective nail systems.
We were the first to lower
nail suppliers in the early 80's
before the Vietnamese got into the nail business.
In 1999 we changed the industry by becoming
the first nail spa supplier with Cuccio Naturale.
I have invented many items that are
used every day in a nail salon.
1981 First emery board with foam.
1983 First sanding blocks with sanitizable foam.
1984 First nail color corrector.
1989 First primer pen.
1999 First disposable pedicure slippers.
Recent new inventions:
2011 First veneer soak off gel no polish.
2012 First detox foot bath for sap globally.
My company has changed the industry by being
the inventor of new products and supplying
cost effective high quality nail products to
nail technicians, and salon owners globally.

My family had long been in the
industry and I knew the hazards
surrounding the procedures of
out-dated nail application. My
father Jack Megna and I began
experimenting with fiberglass.
After an initial year of research
and development, we founded
a formula that was healthy for the natural nail
and more durable than industry standards. In
1983, Backscratcher's Glass Glaze Fiberglass &
Silk Wrap System was launched. It was a success
from the beginning, and today Backscratchers
has sold millions of units worldwide. Over
the last 30 years, the original Glass Glaze has
earned industry- Wide acceptance as the Gold
Standard in its category. It has been awarded
the "Single Most Outstanding Contribution
to the Nail Industry" and "Most Revolutionary
Product" by leading international nail and beauty
magazines. It continues to be voted the #1
Fiberglass and Silk Wrap System in the world.
I am known for my many designs and patents
on products that have innovated, improved
and helped to shape the beauty industry.
It all began with my father, Dr.
Stuart Nordstorm, who was a
dentist. In the past nail techs in
the US basically had no products
to use. So what they discovered
was that dental products would
work ok. So my father was

rooms, and a training school. That's why I
got into to competitions. My first one was in
fiberglass and I learnt my first lesson, as I had
thought I was pretty good and then I realized
"I am not as good as I thought". I loved the
adrenaline and the atmosphere. I entered
again and I won. Then I moved to acrylics.
After winning many competitions in over 10
years I got my teaching qualifications. I started
judging in competitions, I have done it for
many years and then I got offered not to just
judge them but actually to run it. I love seeing
people succeeding. Now you can compete
internationally, do educating, do fashion work
and there are a lot more opportunities.
selling the products to a nail professional in
Southern California in Vista. Then in 1978 the
PDA outlawed the dental products for use for
nail enhancements. My father was a very honest
man and said he wouldn't sell those products
anymore. But one of the clients said "Doc. If
you don't want to sell me the dental stuff, why
don't you come up with something that is legal
and works." That was the beginning of Creative
Nail Design and that is what we did and my
father worked on it. I was a Pre-Med, studying
chemistry. We come up with a product and
only a few people know that the original name
for the very first liquid and powder was Creata
Nail, but there was another company in United
States that told us we were infringing on their
trade mark. Which turned out to be a blessing
because that's when we renamed the Solar Nail,
which was our first mega famous product.
